It’s not me, it’s you, 2024. Installation view at AHH Studio Collective during 2024 residency

IT’S NOT YOU, IT’S ME

It’s not me, it’s you, is an installation of approximately 5,000 quotes, all beginning with the word You, typed from all the novels read by the artist during the Covid pandemic.

En masse, and out of context, statements become an onslaught of affirmations and allegations, some frivolous or humorous, others insightful or even sinister.

The piece explores the influence of reading and the push and pull of the book, in a world where social media has made both self-affirmative memes and trolling commonplace, while speaking of broader issues of inequality, where some are told ‘you’re worth it’, and other are told they’re not.

The version pictured was realised at AHH Studio Collective during a residency in early 2024, and contains just half the 5,000 quotes.
